The Tears of Jesus

There are three times in Jesus’ life that we know He shed tears.

  1. Lazarus tomb—These were tears for a family, a friend who had entered eternity prematurely. We need to shed tears for our family members who are not in the “ark.”
  2. Jerusalem—Jesus stood on the Mount of Olives in Luke 19 and wept over Jerusalem because she missed her “day of visitation.” These were tears for a city and all of us should be moved to tears for the lost condition of the city we are giving our lives to reach.
  3. Gethsemane—Paul reflected in Hebrews of how Christ offered up “loud crying and tears.” This was probably His three hours in Gethsemane where he prayed for the world. With over five billion people we know are lost around the world, we should be moved at the thought of all of these entering the horror of the lake of fire.

When is the last time you cried?
