The Final Summit introduces us to David Ponder several years after The Traveller’s Gift. In the years between the two stories Ponder has built a successful life using the insights gained from the experiences in The Traveller’s Gift. Now, having recently lost his beloved wife, David is depressed and wondering if his life still has purpose. It is at this moment that he is summoned to lead a summit of humanity’s best and brightest to determine what mankind must do in order to return to the path that leads to our purpose.

The Final Summit is an engaging novel that effectively blends fiction, history and inspirational self-help that in a way that is truly unique. Andy Andrews has the singular ability to entertain, enlighten, inform and inspire all at the same time. I found myself both comforted and challenged by the message of this book. While the Final Summit is a follow-up to the Traveller’s Gift, it stands alone as a great read. It is not necessary to have read The Traveller’s Gift to enjoy this book, but I do recommend it.

I encourage you to pick up your copy the Final Summit today!

Beyond Opinion by Ravi Zacharias

Blog

Apologetics

reviews
<guid

The aim of the book is to provide practical answers to contemporary challenges to the faith. A valuable section of this book aids the reader in understanding the questions behind those challenges and then equips the reader to not only know, but to live out the answers.

The best introduction to the tone of this book is this quote of Ravi Zacharias from the Introduction:

Sometime in the 1980′s, Christians in the West began to label evangelistic techniques and reconfigure church services to reduce the message to the lowest level of cognition of the audience. As nobly intentioned as that was, the end result was the lowest level of writing and gospel preaching one could imagine. Mass media was brought to aid this purpose, and before long evangelicals were seen to be masters in entertainment and minimalists in thought.

The variety of authors and their diverse cultural, professional and educational backgrounds make this a very engaging book. It will challenge you to think through the issues surrounding living out the Christian faith in a modern world in a practical and compelling manner. This book is an excellent introduction to and survey of modern apologetics. It will likely be a bit “deeper” than what many Christians are used to reading but, referring again to the author’s quote above, I can’t help but think that this is the purpose of this timely book.

Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from Thomas Nelson Publishers as part of their BookSneeze.com <Called to Worship

In ‘Called to Worship,’ Vernon Whaley takes the reader through the Bible from Genesis to Revelation examining key concepts of true worship. This book shows how central worship is to every aspect of our lives and that principles of authentic worship are found throughout the Scriptures. This is a timely book, as today the term worship conjures images of musical styles, emotionalism and methodology, whereas worship ought to call to mind the greatness of God.

This book challenged me to examine the length and breadth of the Bible for principles of worship. While this sounds like a long and daunting task, Whaley’s conversational and authentic writing style made it feel like an adventure rather than a chore. Throughout the book, I was inspired to hear the Bible as a call for all creation to enter into a worshipful relationship with our loving, holy Creator.

This book has the depth to satisfy the desire of students and teachers for a reliable and thorough text on worship, yet expresses these deep truths in such a practical way that anyone interested in seeing growth in their worship life will find encouragement in its pages.
